
uLocate > Getting Started with uLocate and SouthernLINC®
Customers must meet the certain requirements and then execute the following Steps to use the uLocate application with a Southern LINC® wireless handset.
Once the requirements have been met, there are three (3) steps to setting up a customer account for uLocate:
- Download and Install the application on the wireless handset.
- Initialize the application on the wireless handset and ensure the data plan is activated.
- Complete the uLocate registration form.
CUSTOMER REQUIREMENTS
to use the uLocate application, a Southern LINC® customer must:
Have a GPS-enabled Motorola iDEN i58sr, i88s, or i730 wireless handset that supports Java/J2ME applications.
Have access to a PC/Laptop with Internet access and a Data or USB cable to download application via WebJal or access to a Southern LINC® Data Sales Channel representative who will download the application.

Downloading uLocate to the wireless handset via iDEN Update
Contact your local Southern Linc Data Sales Channel representative for the best way to get uLocate onto your phone.
Installing uLocate on the wireless handset
Power on wireless handset
Press "Menu" key
Scroll to Java Apps
Press "Select"
Scroll to "uLocate"
Press "Install"
Initializing uLocate on the wireless handset
Power on wireless handset
Press "Menu" key
Scroll to "Java Apps"
Press "Select"
Scroll to uLocate"
Press "Run"
Confirm location requests can be sent to uLocate
Press "GRANT"
Press "ALWAYS"
The display will indicate uLocate has been suspended (NOTE: It is actually running but in the background.)
Press "RESUME" to bring the uLocate to the foreground
uLocate will now attempt to get the GPS position of the wireless handset
Press "MENU" to finish the application setup on the wireless handset.
Highlight "SETUP"
Press "Select"
Enter Southern LINC® wireless telephone number
Enter a Personal Identification Number (PIN) of your choice
Press "Save"
The wireless handset will display a screen entitled: uLocate with the first line reading: "Getting GPS Fix"
Press the 'Locate' key. If you don't get the message 'Unable to connect to uLocate Server', your data plan is working and this handset should start sending location information to your uLocate account as soon as it has a clear view of the sky and you have registered on line at www.ulocate.com.
Complete the uLocate registration form
Register: Click here.
- Create a User Account by entering the requested information. There will be a series of forms to fill in before registration is completed
- Create a master login: The username must be unique within uLocate. The password must be a minimum of 4 characters.
- Register the phones: Enter a name for the phone, the Southern LINC® wireless telephone number and the PIN which you have already entered in uLocate on your phone. Choose the phone type closest to your phone. Choose Southern LINC as the carrier. Press 'Save & Continue'. Keep adding phones until you have entered all the phones you want to register with uLocate. Press 'Continue'.
- Enter account contact information: Enter the account administrators contact information. uLocate will use this information for notifications of updates or problems so this information should be kept up-to-date and accurate. This is especially true of the email address. Press 'Continue'.
- Enter billing information: Enter all pertinent Customer Account Information:
Credit Card Information Required:
- Credit Card Type: Visa or MasterCard only at this time
- Credit Card Number
- Expiration Date
- Security Code
- Billing Address associated with the credit card
When all data has been entered and reviewed for accuracy: Press "Place Order"
Review the uLocate User Agreement; Click "I Agree"
If your credit card information passes authorization, you will be routed to the Main Page of the uLocate service at uLocate.com.
(Note: If there are any inconsistencies between your credit card data or your credit card and your billing address, an authorization error will occur at the top of the Credit Card Entry screen and you will be required to enter your data again to correct the problem.)
If your phone is on and running uLocate it will transmit GPS location information every two minutes assuming there is network coverage and GPS position can be established. These should show up in your account almost immediately.
